Courses Taught - Lyle Story
I think that the Bible is the most exciting, awe-inspiring and most thoughtful book ever written. Correspondingly, the courses, which I teach are concerned with the Bible and its sound interpretation and application. The term "exegesis," a $50.00 word, means the "leading out, interpretation, narration." The verb is used in Jn. 1:18, "No one has ever beheld God at any time, but the utterly unique God, who is ever so close to the Father, That One has told the story/narrated/explained Him." Exegesis is that branch of theology, which seeks to be a faithful guide into the interpretation of Holy Scripture. Thus, my classes involve careful interpretation of the Biblical text in both the original languages and the English Bible. Solid teaching and preaching of the biblical texts must necessarily begin with sound interpretation of the text of Scripture as it was originally given. There needs to be a coherence between what the text originally said and meant and what the text says and means in our day. To that end, I am ever so conscious of a dependence upon the Holy Spirit, coupled with the abilities and gifts, which God gives us, His people. I want to be able to think God's thoughts after Him. For me, the study of the Bible is a real delight, which I intend to communicate through teaching, preaching and writing and the numerous face-to-face encounters with people.
